Mr. Steven D Owyoung, Ms. Krystel Mowery (a Senior Research Assistant )and Mrs. Owyoung visited the headquarters of Ogawa School in Kyoto on December 2nd. Mr. Steven previously met the headmaster at London in 2001. Both of them participated in the conference which is entitled Beverages in Early Modern Japan and their International Context 1660s-1920s supported by the Sainsbury Institute for the study of Japanese Arts and Cultures. Both of them made the lectures at London University.  Mr. Owyoung said that he visited Kyoto at least once or twice a year. This time in Kyoto was spent productively visiting several places for his research everyday.
The headmaster welcome, saying that his Japanese maple tree had tinged with red unusually late in the year and kept its red leaves until they arrived to welcome them.
They seemed to have enjoyed never-ending conversation sometimes even in Chinese about many topics including common acquaintances in a large circle of researchers and artists of scroll painters.   Tea made by the proudest in the history of the Ogawa School was served to them. The headmaster explained about “Sanjihei” which is decorated behind tea utensils, it is a screen pasted with letters posted from Tomioka Tessai to the second generation headmaster, Kiraku Ogawa.
 After tea appreciation, they enjoyed the view of Kyoto city on a fine day from Sanroan, a tea hut which stands on the northern end of the headquarters. In the other room he beautifully wrote his autograph with black ink which stark contrast to the white paper. Mr.Owyoung invited the headmaster to his hometown, Saint Luis saying that if the headmaster visits, Mr.Owyoung will look after him and the headmaster need not worry about anything at all.
