Kashin Ogawa briefly explained tea utensils whether they are good
or not in his book, Kissaben. He
judged them good or bad only by whether they could function to draw
out the essence of tea or not. He ignored other items like new or
old or Japanese or Chinese. He believed that tea utensils should
be used up until they fade away. Because they were substances and
they should show the virtue of substances, that was they would disappear
after they were well used. Tea utensils were not treasures just
to be displayed.
